One of the hardest parts of being a leader is finding the right balance of support and challenge for your team. Offering too much support stifles growth, but providing too steep a challenge will only discourage.?

We've been trying to figure out these opposing forces and the balance between them for millennia. In the late 7th century BCE, the Greek poet Hesiod wrote at length about the force that moves us, for good and for bad. He called it "strife."
