Welcome to the Ramtech Round-Up for October! In this edition, we bring you critical insights on safeguarding construction sites during the winter period, updates on our recent participation in the Colony OcTOOLberfest, and the importance of staying informed about code changes affecting fire safety on timber-frame construction sites in San Francisco.
1. Protect Your Construction Site from Winter Hazards
According to the NFPA 241 report, fires in structures under construction are most prevalent during the winter months, particularly in November to January, when heating devices are commonly used. Icy temperatures expose various issues, from cracked pipes to increased flammability of hazardous materials. To tackle these challenges, Ramtech emphasizes a technology-first approach. We recommend innovative wireless and connected solutions that automatically detect and confirm excess heat and smoke, enhancing safety and providing an early warning system.
James Pecz explained, "The NFPA's 2022 standard, NFPA 241, sets stricter measures for site communication, housekeeping, and fire protocols. Wireless fire and evacuation systems like WES3 play a key role in meeting these standards by integrating into cloud-based platforms such as REACT for real-time monitoring."
Quick Tips to Secure Your Construction Site:
2. OcTOOLberfest
We recently exhibited at Colony Hardware 40th annual OcTOOLberfest. During the event, our team actively engaged with key stakeholders and demonstrated the effectiveness of our WES3 Wireless Evacuation and REACT Emergency Notification system. This provided a valuable opportunity to showcase our innovative solutions and foster insightful conversations.

3. Code Changes Yet to Be Fully Embraced
Seven months after a significant update to San Francisco fire safety regulations, many contractors remain unaware of the potential risks at construction sites. In 2023, the San Francisco Fire Department introduced a revised fire code mandating the use of wireless fire detection and notification systems in wood-frame structures under construction. Awareness and education are crucial to ensure the safety of lives and assets.
Will Rutledge dge, Ramtech's Business Development Manager, emphasized the need for all stakeholders to be educated on these changes to protect lives and mitigate penalties.
Ongoing Fire Risks
A recent incident in San Francisco highlighted the ongoing fire risk. Over 100 firefighters responded to an apartment building under construction engulfed in flames. The incident underscores the importance of a 24/7 safety system capable of sending alerts outside regular working hours.
Joe Beecher , Vice President of Sales at Ramtech North America , stressed that relying on outdated methods like manual watches and air horns is no longer sufficient. The new fire code makes wireless intervention imperative.
