Ramp Agent, Success Story

Grant Melton joined us on 13th?August 2022 at our ‘Meet & Greet’ event in the Crawley Office. Having been with us for well over a month, Grant reflects on his journey so far and reveals all about his duties as a Ramp Agent.?

I was a professional photographer, but Covid closed my business. In pursuit of a new job, I went to work as a porter in a hospital for 18?months. I then found Optime!
I like the job as the airside experience is completely different to what a passenger might expect.?It’s the nuts and bolts of the airport! What I do can be demanding and is also very physical at times, but there is equally some downtime in-between jobs. There is a variety of work from loading and unloading hold baggage, placing and removing warning cones and chocks around the aircraft, checking front and rear holds/ sort closure, and preparing planes for departure and arrival. Although, in principle, what we do on a daily basis is repetitive, each member takes it in turns to carry out all the tasks that make such operations possible.

I have found all the crew I work with to be very considerate and easy to get on with. Everyone is happy to work alongside the newbies as they were once in the same position. There is very much a 'can do attitude' and a willingness to get the work done.?

For the short time I’ve been here, I have acquired great friendships! Our team banter definitely adds to the appeal of working here at Gatwick. Looking forward to the driving element now.?
