Hello everyone??, Dr. Sukumar Munje here, and welcome to Manpravah’s Healing Journey Saturday Edition. Today, I’m sharing the story of Ramesh (name changed), a loving father and bank employee, whose life revolved around his daughter diagnosed with autism. His journey highlights the emotional struggles parents of special children face and how finding balance is essential for both the parent and child.
A Happy Beginning: Ramesh’s Life Before Autism
Ramesh came from a middle-class family, known for his quiet and thoughtful nature. He married Meghna, who also worked in a bank, and their life together began on a happy note. After two years of marriage, they welcomed a baby girl into their lives. Though there were minor complications during Meghna’s delivery, the baby’s vitals were normal, and their joy knew no bounds.
The couple cherished their new role as parents, and their family life was filled with happiness. Everything seemed perfect until their daughter turned three.
The Diagnosis That Changed Everything
At the age of three, Ramesh and Meghna began noticing unusual behaviors in their daughter. She struggled to make eye contact, remained seated in one place for long hours, and barely spoke. Concerned, they consulted a doctor who diagnosed her with autism.
The news was devastating for Ramesh and Meghna. Their dreams for their child were shattered, and their lives took a drastic turn. They immediately began treatments and enrolled her in a special school, but the diagnosis changed their family dynamics completely.
The New Normal: Life Revolving Around Autism
As their daughter struggled with noise sensitivity and socialization, Ramesh and Meghna’s social life became restricted. Every decision, outing, and moment revolved around their daughter’s needs. Ramesh, who was already an introverted and quiet person, began to withdraw further.
The pressure of managing work, family, and caregiving took a toll on him. He couldn’t stop overthinking about his daughter’s future—her education, her ability to live independently, and her long-term well-being. This overthinking gradually led to intense stress and anxiety. He felt trapped in a cycle of worry, unable to see beyond his fears.
Seeking Help at Manpravah: Addressing His Fears
A common friend noticed Ramesh’s struggles and suggested he visit Manpravah Clinic. When Ramesh came to us, he was overwhelmed, consumed by fears about his daughter’s future, and unable to focus on anything beyond her needs. He felt like he had forgotten how to live his own life.
Through our sessions, we worked on:
Addressing His Fears for the Future: Using hypnotherapy, we helped Ramesh confront his fears about his daughter’s future. By focusing on the present rather than the uncertain future, he began to let go of his constant worry.
Teaching Him to Balance Caregiving and Self-Care: Parents of special children often lose themselves in caregiving. We reminded Ramesh that he could only give his best to his daughter if he also took care of himself.
Helping Him Reconnect with Life Beyond Autism: Through visualization techniques and counselling, we helped Ramesh rediscover his passions, reconnect with Meghna, and regain a sense of purpose beyond his role as a father.

The Transformation: A Stress-Free Life
With time and consistent therapy, Ramesh began to change. He started enjoying small moments of joy with his family, without the constant cloud of worry hanging over him. He learned to accept the challenges of raising a child with autism while also finding time for himself and his relationship with Meghna.
Ramesh realized that his stress was not helping his daughter—it was only affecting his ability to support her effectively. By letting go of his fears and focusing on the present, he was able to rebuild his emotional resilience and improve his overall well-being.
Key Takeaways from Ramesh’s Journey
Parents of Special Children Need Support Too: Caregiving can take a toll on mental health. It’s important for parents to seek help and prioritize their own well-being.
The Power of Hypnotherapy: Hypnotherapy can help address deep-seated fears and anxieties, allowing individuals to regain control over their thoughts and emotions.
Balancing Caregiving and Self-Care: A parent’s well-being directly impacts their ability to care for their child. Finding time for self-care is not selfish—it’s necessary.
Conclusion
Ramesh’s story reminds us that while caregiving for a special child is a full-time commitment, it’s equally important for parents to take care of themselves. By finding balance, Ramesh was able to become a stronger, more present father for his daughter while also rediscovering his own life.
