Ramblings on the Fate of the Western World
Jeremy Epstein
Professionally, I am passionate about #Marketing and #Web3. I have other passions as well and I'm not shy about sharing them on LinkedIn. ????????????????
I wish I understood the world’s fascination with Israel.
My brother thinks that I underestimate how deeply the narrative of the Jewish people penetrates the psyche.
That may be the case.
There’s a part of me that gets spiritual or even biblical about all of this.
There are so many stories where Israel stands alone, surrounded by an evil world, but it remains steadfast to its mission of being a “light unto the nations.”
The Next Dark Ages?
I could be wrong and I hope I am wrong, but I wonder if we’re entering another Dark Ages.
Europe will become gradually less democratic, with much of this attributable to the mass and rapid immigration of people who don’t share Western values and where there’s not enough time to acclimate.
Deep down, Europeans know this. It’s happening in the UK, the Netherlands, and more places.
Global institutions are rotting from the inside. The ICCJ and the UN are the two best examples.
Countries that are barely relevant, like South Africa, Mexico, and Colombia seek to leverage the Gaza situation, but it’s a “look over here” issue. Try fixing your internal situation so that not everyone wants to leave or fears for their lives on a daily basis…or both.
Intimidation as the New M.O.
The dangers of the Far Right are well known and people love to point them out, but the efforts at intimidation by the Far Left (and increasingly the more mainstream Left) point a picture towards reduced democratic principles.
Donald Trump is a blowhard, yes. He threatens Western institutions, yes. But his threat is overt.
What the Left is doing is covert.

But the combination is lethal to the things that we cherish.
Hating Jews is Popular
And this brings me back to Israel.
I don’t know why so many people are so fascinated by it.
Why do 1.9 billion Muslims (or let’s say 10% of them, 190 million, which seems low) care so much about destroying the Jewish state and Jews?
What is it about the state’s mere existence that infuriates people?
They don’t really care about the Palestinians. Everyone who has a smidgen of knowledge about the Middle East knows that.
They do care about killing Jews, all 16 million of them though.
It’s going to be a tough slog for the foreseeable future.
Hating Jews and the Jewish state is mega-popular right now.
Assuming the world makes it 50 or 100 years from now, it’ll be fascinating to see how this period of rabid anti-Semitism is viewed (if it even registers).
I think the chapter will be sad, very sad.
And those who proudly supported terrorist organizations will be the ones that history eviscerates.
But it may take a while before we get there.
