Every so often, friends from overseas asked about the magic behind Singapore's religious harmony. A recent visit to Masjid Al-Iman in Bukit Panjang provided a vivid example. Following the Asar prayer—the day's third prayer—I observed Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, MP Mr. Liang Eng Hwa, and a group of volunteers distributing Bubur, a traditional savory porridge.
This gesture was more than just the act of distributing food; it carried a profound message. This simple act of sharing food, which is so central to the Ramadan spirit, went beyond just that moment. Having community leaders and volunteers take part in traditions like this reflects a real commitment to being an inclusive society. These acts capture the true spirit of Singapore's religious harmony. People's Association
