Raksha Bandhan is a very important festival in India which signifies "Bandhan" ( Bond) between Brother and sister . On this day a brother visits sister, who ties a thread ( evolved as decorative Rakhi traditionally ( as shown in picture above), after rituals and gives him sweets. the bond assures the sister that He would always protect the sister.

Today in Dainik Bhaskar ( Hindi News paper ) it is highlighted that Rakhi also signifies bonds / respect for :

  1. Husband : to protect wife
  2. King : to protect people
  3. Prakriti ( envoirenemnt )
  4. Guru ( Teacher )
  5. Lord Krishna who protected Draupati
