Historical Significance: The festival has roots in various historical and mythological events, reflecting the strong bond of love, duty, and protection between siblings. One popular legend is from the Mahabharata, where Draupadi tied a strip of cloth around Lord Krishna’s wrist, and in return, he vowed to protect her. Another tale is of Rani Karnavati of Chittor, who sent a Rakhi to Emperor Humayun, seeking help to defend her kingdom.

To foster more inclusive celebrations, it’s essential to unlearn any restrictive interpretations of gender roles associated with Raksha Bandhan. The festival should be celebrated as a mutual bond of love and protection, irrespective of gender, thereby expanding its relevance and inclusivity.
