Raison d'etre! Purpose is Everything.
Purpose, or, as the French say, your raison d'etre!
Here's the deal: you don't necessarily have to find your purpose.
It's totally cool to make something your purpose, even if it's just for today.
Or for a week, or a year.
There's absolutely no shame in changing gears.
Little kids do it all the time
I wanted to be a scientist when I grew up.
Thanks to my amazingly resourceful, middle-class parents. And a work ethic encouraged from a very young age, I had access to hydrochloric acid, saltpeter, sodium ferrocyanide, sulphur, bauxite, berry fields, and neighbors who would donate D-cell batteries (carbon rods for a homemade Carbon Arc Furnace) and tampon tubes (the perfect flammable casing for homemade rocket engines).
Through the years I "changed majors" aka passions, from electronics to pop, R&B, Jazz, Rock and Acoustic music to chemistry to high voltage vacuum experiments to magnets to turtles and lizards and snakes to tDCS to bicycles to lasers to michoacan weed to running to tennis to hot rodding cars to business to military to religion to guitar to studio production to weightlifting to motorcycle road racing to hang gliding to free climbing back to lasers to printing technologies back to high voltage electronics to graphic design, 3D Animation to electric cars to internet technologies to PR and media to venture capital to supplement design and...
Yeah, it's OK to shift gears.
Just invest yourself in something that makes time disappear. That makes you smile.
Don't worry about what the outside world thinks.
There will always be naysayers who will poopoo your decisions and explorations and jump for joy at your failures.
F*ck 'em.
Because you get to own your life.
You are 100% responsible for your success and failure.
I'd much rather fail trying something cool that I love. Something that feeds my soul.
Than succeed at something I didn't love. Something that makes me watch the clock and want/need a stiff drink following because it's mind numbing or unfulfilling.
Now it's your turn.
What is it that moves you?
What makes you giddy with excitement?
What envelopes you in the process?
What makes you feel alive?
Whatever it is, do that.
