Raising the Volume: Emily Williams and Women of Colour Australia Collaborate to Make a Difference Through the Power of Voice
Multi-platinum recording artist Emily Williams unveiled as Women of Colour Australia's Global Ambassador
Women of Colour Australia (WoCA), an Australian not-for-profit organisation advocating for a fairer and more equitable Australia for Women of Colour, is proud to announce its partnership with Emily Williams, celebrated as Australia's 'Queen of The High C's'. The collaboration aims to amplify the voices of Women of Colour around Australia and the world through the power of music and community.
The partnership will be grounded in the values of sisterhood and solidarity, and will work towards elevating the voices of Women of Colour and creating spaces where they can feel seen, heard, and valued.
Emily Williams, a Fiji-Samoan woman, born and raised in New Zealand, grew up surrounded by culture, tradition and Christian values. Heritage and self identity has always been hugely important to her and is something she hopes to share with other Women of Colour.
I’m genuinely honoured and incredibly thrilled to be named as the global ambassador for Women of Colour Australia. This means the world to me. This project is one that is so close to my heart. Let's create conversation, advocate for change and raise the volume.
Brenda Gaddi, Founder and Managing Director, WoCA said, “This new partnership with vocal powerhouse Emily Williams will use music as a tool for advocacy and change, and build a community of support and solidarity. Our shared vision is a world where all Girls and Women of Colour have equal and equitable access to opportunities, where they are able to reach their full potential, and where they are celebrated for their unique gifts and talents.”

We acknowledge the Wallumattagal clan of the Darug nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Women of Colour Australia is situated. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women with whom we stand in solidarity. We acknowledge that as settlers on this stolen Aboriginal land, we are beneficiaries of the dispossession, genocide, and ongoing colonial violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We believe that it is our collective responsibility and moral imperative to help dismantle the systemic barriers and structural inequities oppressing the original inhabitants of this land. We are also painfully aware that this land was taken forcibly, without a Treaty or reparations made. We have taken a practical step towards honouring sovereignty by paying the rent – and we invite you to do so too. This land is and always will be Aboriginal land. Sovereignty was never ceded.
