Raising funds for healthcare equipment for Destiny Medical Centre, Uganda

I am supporting my amazing, tenacious, committed selfless friend, Dr Dee Wevill, a GP near Birmingham, UK, who spends every spare moment when she is not working in her practice, helping the people of Wakiso, Uganda to have access to functioning healthcare.

Dee and her team have tirelessly worked, fundraising, project managing and providing healthcare as part of the Destiny Medical Centre (DMC) project. They have found land, built a medical centre, equipped and staffed it, trained local people to administer it, so that the centre can be self sufficient. Read more here: About Destiny Medical Centre

Now, through The Big Give Christmas Challenge she is hoping to raise ￡96,000 to buy an ultrasound scanner and equip the laboratory at DMC. Having these items will allow them to finally open the clinic, as they facilitate profitability. Because profits will be used to subsidise the charitable services at DMC, the purchase of these items will help them to realise their vision of making healthcare affordable, accessible and available to the underserved in the community in Wakiso, Uganda.

Donations made during Giving Week (28th November to 5th December 2023) will be doubled up to a value of the total pledges which currently stands at ￡18,250. By having as many fundraisers as possible, who will reach out to as many people as possible... this becomes do-able.

That is why I am playing my small part to raise funds for DMC and the people of Wakiso, as I believe access to affordable healthcare is a basic need and that as a society we should try to do our part to support this need, whether you live in UK or Uganda, Warwick or Wakiso.
