RAISE YOUR BAR!
Just because of my post about Best of Luck, Jobseekers!, I got more or less 20 people asked me for career consulting.
Instead of asking me questions such as:
1. Do you have a job for me?
2. Kindly review my LinkedIn profile
3. I'd like to apply for the position you have. Can I?
(Totally nothing wrong with that. That's part of effort to get a job but not that efficient)
Some of them are coming directly to tiket.com office, couple of people contacted me through phone for 30 mins call, WhatsApp chatting, or even LinkedIn inbox. I can say that they have made one single step ahead (it doesn't mean that others don't). Why?
By the time they gave me contact, they realized about their strength and weakness. But one thing for sure that they are willing to improve their self. They would like to raise their bar. That's a da*n positive way.
One of the story that I could share publicly is the moment when I feel that I can't do anything to the job or simply I just get exhausted to my daily routine. What I did was applying job as much as I can. I applied for more than 100 jobs just for 2 months. I even apply for job in overseas. It just like never give up on applying. You know what, the result will come to an end when you keep fight on what you believe. That's true. However, I never see my result as it ended up with no interview call or there are few of them contacted me just to say thanks for apply blablabla and following with a question "What is your push and pull factor to us?" or it's another structured question of "What is your reason to move?". Daaaang, I got no the answer!.
I suddenly see myself and asked, what I've done so far. I only focus to get new job immediately by applying vacancies. I missed out to focus on my personal improvement. I never touched it since I felt comfy to my daily. This is totally wrong. Why? It changes my view when a 'challenge' come to me and I couldn't solve it. Because I think the capacity that I have is not there yet. A double wrong to me. What you need to do is do it right away. If you have the same feeling with me (capacity is not there yet), you have to see revisit your perspective. Just go beyond it.
What I did was:
- consult with my senior; it can be your direct manager. but the craziest that I did was consult with the owner of the company.
- working closely with the stakeholders; it is someone who give you challenge
- asking feedback from related parties; it can be managers or stakeholders
- enrich my knowledge from any sources such as Google, Youtube, Meetup, Seminars, Networking event, etc
- challenge my self.
Unwittingly, I have moved to another level. I have raised my bar.
Like what I am doing right now. I am bad in writing, but I challenge myself to oftenly write yet meaningful.
So, to whom who manage to read this, RAISE YOUR BAR!
Believe me, if you are in looking for new opportunity right now, it will approaches you automatically. Again, let's RAISE THE BAR together by sharing something that can improve our ability.
Disclaimer: I am not a Career Consultant but I can share my story or experience and hope you can take any advantage from there.
