Mark asked me to tell him about Tales of Illuminatus!:
My story begins, like so many others before me, with a friend randomly handing me a copy of Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea’s Illuminatus! Trilogy, which I’d never heard of, and then spending the next 3 days getting absolutely dragged through 800+ pages of pure luminous chaos!
Alan Moore, who has a story similar to mine, suggested that Illuminatus! has the alchemical ability to transform “paranoia from a sickness into an illuminating game.” Grant Morrison, again, with the same basic story, said he was blown away by the scale of Illuminatus! and its all-encompassing worldview, “from the gutter to the cosmos,” which directly influenced his brilliant comic series The Invisibles.
The transformative effect this book had on me was so strong, and the narrative so immersive, that three years after reading it, at the age of 23, I found myself smoking a joint in the apartment of Robert Anton Wilson, while we watched Son of Frankenstein. “Everything is under control,” he told me :)))
When I first showed Mr. Wilson my comix, a crude approximation of his “master that makes the grass green” routine, his enthusiasm was a great gift to me, he was so excited by the prospect of his “neurosemantics” getting translated to the comic book medium that, for decades now, I’ve kept that dream alive, in the pages of my weird underground comix, and now, coming full circle, in the official comic book adaptation of that most radiant trilogy… TALES OF ILLUMINATUS!

I started back at work last week and simultaneously caught an egregiously bad cold, but things remain moving fwd quite nicely, steady as she goes!
The kickstarter ends tomorrow, though there’ll be a brief “late pledge” period for last minute orders, because we don’t actually go to press until Sept 8th. TBH I kinda eased up on screaming about it, because I kinda hit a point of diminishing returns on yelling “BUY MY BOOK!” at strangers, and thought that energy was best spent making it a book worth hollering about. I guess we’ll see!
In any event, BUY MY BOOK!
