My Promise to You…

A concrete strategy for achieving your fundraising goals by leveraging the power of people, and the most amazing fundraising opportunity available today.

Before we get into the good stuff, let me just check in with you and see where you’re at.

Does This Sound Like You?

  1. Are you frustrated because you’re spending time and money using traditional fundraising methods and you’re not getting the results you want?
  2. Deep-down, you know that you need a better fundraising platform that can provide a sustainable income you can depend on?
  3. Do you keep using the same type of fundraiser because you’re afraid that if you change, you won’t earn as much money?
  4. Do you wish you could find an easier way to meet your fundraising goals?
  5. Do you struggle with not having enough resources to manage everything you want to do?

Fundraising is the lifeblood of your organization. It’s what helps you to accomplish your mission, help those in need and bring in more resources to continue funding those efforts. However, securing those funds is not always an easy accomplishment.

The options for giving are endless and it can be hard to stand out from other organizations asking for donations. You will need to explore opportunities to build credibility and increase awareness for your organization.

Let’s look at some common fundraising challenges charities, schools and nonprofits, currently face and how to overcome them and attract more consistent donations.

The Real Problem…

The real problem is that many fundraising organizers do not follow common donor retention and acquisition best practices. Very few consider basic human nature and therefore forget that it's vitally important to stay at the forefront of the donor’s mind.?

Most people would be happy to purchase a candy bar to support your organization but what happens after the candy bar is gone? Do they know anything about your organization? How can they provide ongoing support to you on a regular basis?

Many people purchase candy bars and popcorn to support organizations but selling candy here and there doesn't build a relationship with the donor.

One way to keep donors engaged is to offer real value in exchange for their contributions. Your goal is to incentivize them with an incredibly powerful value proposition.

Once you begin using this simple donor acquisition strategy…

  • You’ll be able to attract an endless amount of donations on autopilot coming to you year after year.
  • Your donor base will grow exponentially by leveraging the power of people and social media.
  • You’ll stay in touch with donors, so that, years from now, strong relationships continue to grow.

You’ll see that the invisible ceiling that you thought was there blocking you from your potential has been destroyed, and you’ll use your new approach to catapult your fundraising while helping people on a scale you never thought possible.

Most importantly, you’ll have a reliable source of revenue ongoing so you can prepare accurate operating budgets and have a better idea of the money you’ll have to pursue your mission.

Let’s Explore Some Donor Acquisition Challenges

Finding New Donors

People are very careful about whom they give their money to. We talk to friends and family, do online research or, reach out to others with the same values to get advice. If your organization doesn’t come up in that research, they might not know you exist.?

Focusing on old and outdated marketing methods could be hindering your efforts to attract more donors. Investing just a little time leveraging social media and the community can make a big difference. You want your organization visible when someone’s ready and willing to give.

One way to overcome this situation would be to encourage individuals, volunteers and current supporters to attract donations from their immediate family members, other relatives, friends, co-workers, and other sources personal to them. You can connect to a network bigger than your own by asking people to share your campaign out to their networks.

Some of these individuals could have hundreds or even thousands of social media friends or followers who could potentially be willing to support your mission. With this method of campaigning to build and retain donor interest, your fundraiser could go viral. Online fundraising efforts can increase revenue in a creative way and help you acquire new donors by reaching more potential donors with ease. Colleagues, friends, family, are inclined to pay closer attention when loved ones share the causes they care about on social media.

Make sure you leverage the power of the internet to:

  • Attract new donors at a much lower cost
  • Reach a more diverse group of people
  • Generate higher average donations
  • Create strategic alliances

?You must engage your supporters who have broad networks and aren’t shy about promoting your charity.?Task these supporters with heading up your viral campaign and spreading the word about your efforts.

Donor Retention

These days people tend to want and some even expect to get something in return for what they give. Someone might donate once, but getting them to donate on a regular basis, that can be pretty difficult.?

The key to retaining donors lies in the value you’re able to provide them. What are they getting in return for their donations??

Providing exceptional value to donors will help you reach new segments and convert donors who may otherwise not give. Recurring donations help to provide a sustainable income your organization can rely on year after year.

A strong membership program will have a higher retention rate that gets stronger over time. The benefit and value received from supporting your organization will not go unnoticed by your donor's circle of influence thereby increasing your fundraising potential.

Make sure you send personalized thank you notes and keep your supporters apprised of what their dollars are doing. Include them and commend them. Empower patrons to carry your message and bring in others to donate as well. Recurring donors often become your most engaged supporters, actively volunteering, advocating, and fundraising on your behalf.?

Lack of Resources

There are more than 1.5 million nonprofit organizations registered in the United States. For many, earning trust and support doesn’t come easy. With schools, churches, grassroots groups and national organizations with hundreds of local chapters all seeking attention from donors, reaching new supporters brings its own unique set of challenges.

Most of your resources are probably allocated to achieving the overall mission, as they should be. Being short on cash flow doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t get your name out there. Engage with your community both online and offline to increase your reach, spread awareness and promote your fundraising efforts.

I can’t overemphasize using social media as a low-cost way to connect with your community. With limited resources and time, maximizing your reach is essential to your success. By tapping into online resources you can optimize your efforts and create more opportunities to connect with larger audiences than ever before.

A new fundraising campaign may not attract the eyes of national news outlets but local news organizations love to tell positive stories of community members making a difference. Building relationships with local reporters and media outlets can have a major impact on awareness and donations. It might take some creativity, but the added exposure will be well worth it in the end.

Pitching your story to the local press can help gain positive attention and credibility but the press is even more interested in facts, trends, challenges, new ideas, and news that impacts their readers.?

When connecting with a reporter, whether for print media, radio or TV, here are some guidelines that will help enhance the interaction:

  • Describe a new challenge and demonstrate a solution
  • Share critical statistics or cutting edge information
  • Make the story local if possible
  • Get coverage for successful programs and services
  • Offer media interviews on evolving trends, challenges, etc.
  • When hosting events, consider inviting the Journalists, they will enjoy the opportunity to see the organization in action and network with the audience as well.

Telling Your Story

Your organization should identify the story you want to tell stakeholders and paint a vision of what the world could look like if your mission is achieved. Take a step back and determine a strong and compelling case for support.

Without a clear reason for giving, attracting donors to your organization can be difficult. Here are 3 essential elements you should address in your case for support.

  • What is your organization's "Unique Selling Proposition". Why you are wonderful? And what makes you different from your competition?
  • Define your urgency. Why do you need action now, today, tomorrow? What will happen if action is not taken? What has changed? Has something in the community changed? Has something in your organization changed?
  • Why should a person care? What’s in it for the donor? What difference can they make? How will a donor's investment in you make a difference?

Donors give to people with causes, it’s the details that make a story real. Explain what exactly happened that inspired your mission and the circumstances and conditions of those you are helping. Donors need to know they are giving to a real situation, not just an idea or a concept.

Key to every good story is a powerful ‘why.’ This is the purpose behind your mission. It is not the goals or the leadership's credentials, but more importantly the reasons that matter on a human level.

A good ‘why’ might be, “because lack of access to technology shouldn’t keep a child from pursuing an education,” or, “No child attending school should ever be denied lunch.”

What you are doing matters in a way that goes beyond your fundraising efforts. What you are doing actually changes people's lives and makes a difference in the world we live in. Make sure your potential donors know that by putting your story front and center.

Fundraising is a nonstop process, and it’s important to always be tweaking and improving your efforts. Small improvements can lead to big gains, and there are more ways than a single article can detail how success can be achieved.

However, following these few strategies alone are enough to propel your organization, income, and impact to levels you never thought possible.

Raise $25k in the next 2 weeks?????

Is it possible to get to $25k in funding in the next 2 weeks?

I know it is.

I can’t promise it.

I can’t make you do it.

But realistically....that’s only 1000 memberships in our program.

And that’s only 100 kids/supporters selling 5 memberships each.

Surely there are 100 kids/supporters in your school or church that can reach 5 supporters.

Or what if 200 people sold 5 memberships, that would raise $50k for your cause.

How many volunteers do you have?

Look, I know I’m oversimplifying.

But the truth is...it’s easy when you know exactly what to do and how to do it...

We have revolutionized fundraising for churches, schools, and nonprofit organizations. Selling candy, car washes and popcorn are now a thing of the past. Other types of fundraisers often fail to provide students and athletes, ministries and charities the right vehicle to properly leverage the power of crowdfunding and social media.
