Rainy Night Repairs, Unyielding Resolve: The Story of the Anchor Brake Disc Replacement Team

On the night of July 1st, a cargo ship sailed into Qingdao's Qianwan Port, accompanied by the city's first summer rain. At the same time, WinKong engineers were ready to tackle the challenge of a wet night operation.

As the final stop for domestic freight loading and unloading, this docking had a strict timetable that included tasks like replacing the anchor brake disc and inspecting the main engine turbocharger. With several technical challenges and a high workload, WinKong engineers had only a few hours to finish the job. The project team understood that only by racing against the clock could they accomplish the tasks in the allotted time and secure the ship's flawless departure. Therefore, they arrived early at Qianwan Port, ready to execute the mission.

The prepared welding materials and tools for the brake disc replacement crew were effortlessly hauled to the anchor point at the ship's bow early on July 2nd. At this point, strong winds pummelling the water, and heavy showers battered the deck. To begin the procedure, WinKong engineers put on raincoats and ventured into the rain.

The anchor, having been exposed to the elements for years, was badly rusted and usually required high-temperature heating for disassembly. However, due to the volatile chemicals on board, any hot work was prohibited by port. After considerable deliberation, the project team settled on physical rust removal and "hard" disassembly of the pieces. At 2 a.m., the relentless rain made raincoats useless, as rain mixed with sweat flowed down their faces, soaking everyone's clothes and shoes. Despite their efforts, the anchor's bolts remained firmly fixed.

The operation came to a halt, but the team resumed their work despite the rain. Considering everyone's safety and health, the project team agreed to take a short break to eat and restore energy. After a quick meal, the team discovered that the rain had not stopped. Determined not to disrupt the schedule, they resumed their full participation in the operation.

After a night of hard work, by 7 a.m., all the anchor components were finally disassembled. By noon, an engineers team had finished inspecting the main engine turbocharger in the cabin and were on deck to help. Both teams worked together to finish all duties by 4 p.m. The ship's inspection staff praised the WinKong project team for their efforts.

As the skies cleared after the rain, WinKong engineers' perspiration assured a flawless delivery to Qianwan Port, who exhibited their endurance and fighting spirit during this stormy combat, indicating that they are a squad that answers quickly, battles tenaciously, and wins decisively—the iron army of WinKong!
