RAINBOW FASHION WEEK-The Brooklyn Edition
After a week, with 8 shows over six days, we conquered the challenges and had some very successful nights, including Hair Du Soleil, Haus of Jag, and PhotoViews. The spaces were extraordinary, the models walked with their own personal flair, and the designers were dynamic; from our thirteen year old to our cancer survivor who made fashions on the spot.
My particular contribution this year challenged me with the task of bringing all the logistics of these shows together, with the many personalities that come. All shows are not created equal, and where there was sparseness, we me the challenge of filling the void. Where there was overabundance, scaling back. We accomplished bringing balance and a respect for the art of fashion in all its interpretations. Some nights saw the theme of Afro-Futurism go big, such as Urban Knights where the crowd saw an eclectic array of designers; and other times it was very understated. Haus of Jag saw three very different collections by Jag & Co. including vests; plaids; and sports wear.
Brooklyn Bank was a great venue, serving the needs of providing a beautiful space, a secure backstage and VIP seating options. The five days there brought excitement and interest to the community at large as well. Our last night in Industry City took advantage of a great raw space and relied on the photographers to create inspiration.
As Production Manager I can truthfully say that the experience this year was a great test. We faced the issues and resolved them quickly, improvising so that it did not detract from the shows; and we made most of the folks involved with the process happy with the results. Hard work and planning are the key and we look forward to next year's event- hoping to make it even bigger- to have designers who can create vision from inspiration; to present models across the spectrum of fashion and to increase the awareness of the LGBTQ community and the world at Large. See you next year!
