Rail performance from the customer's point of view

The message from the DfT to the rail industry right now is 'win back customers... and keep costs low'. However, the captive commuter market has been decimated and so train operating companies and local transport authorities need to work extra hard to bring back customers to rail. We believe the best way to do this is to be super-attentive to the customer experience.

However, if you can't measure it, you can't improve it. Working with Northern Trains, TransportAPI has built a brand new Rail Performance managed service to track every train and put the issues the customer cares about behind an API.

So now we can report when exactly cancellations were made, what happened to the 'expected' times for train departures and the amount of lateness attributed to the various delay reasons. You can read more in our blog post and see some of the data we can extract alongside historic departure boards.
