Rahul Gautam - researching and planning for a difficult time ahead

Should mental age patients be handled by MBBS, who prescribe them medicines, when they actually need counselling, guidance and mental support? Should there be any system where the government should create a counselling center for the old age people, who really need someone to listen to them and talk to them? Should there be any provision for clinical counselling for the lonely people, who are facing the problem of loneliness due to single person in the family? These are some of the issues that will confront all of us in the years to come.

We have only 25 years to prepare for the biggest tragedy that we will be facing in our country. With over 30 Crore old people, we will be a very difficult nation in the year 2050. We actually don't have any concrete plans for these old people. Most of these old people will be facing a very difficult time. Almost all the persons of my age have only one or two children, who will also get settled and may be the career race in the next 25 years. Persons of my age will be old age people at that time and we all will be under very difficult time.

The joint family system has been abandoned without adopting suitable alternative measures and we have inadequate social-network or family welfare schemes in place. What should be the way out?

Mr. Rahul Gautam plans to take up these issues in his studies. He is himself a psychologist and wants to undertake research on how to handle the issues of mental health among the old age generation and his study will be able to find solutions to the most pressing issues that we are all going to face in the years to come.

Will Mr. Rahul Gautam be able to bring some happiness for old people in the years to come? Will his passion help us in finding some solutions? Will there be a provision of clinical psychologists in every city? As of now we have only 2000 clinical psychologists in our country - how are we going to meet the challenges of the years to come? Rahul Gautam is a Doctoral Student in my University, who is really passionate about solving these issues through his research. Please connect to him at [email protected] or WhatsApp him: 9899020222.
