RSNA 2024 Preview

Your flights are booked, suitcase packed and warm coat is at the ready. (it’s meant to be even colder than last year). It’s time to preview this year’s Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) .

Held at McCormick Place in Chicago, RSNA 2024 is expecting almost 25,000 medical imaging professionals to attend the world’s largest medical equipment exhibition.

Over 750 exhibitors can be found in the vast halls of McCormick this year, alongside over 300 educational courses and more than 2800 scientific presentations.

Your itinerary for next week is probably looking quite full, but if you have a few time slots left, here are some picks from me on who you should make some time to go and meet.

Curemetrix

First on my list is CureMetrix , with cmAngio? by CureMetrix.

I had the pleasure of discussing cmAngio with the CureMetrix team in November and they should be high on your list of your meetings at RSNA too.

A groundbreaking FDA-cleared AI software that revolutionizes the identification of Breast Arterial Calcifications (BAC) in Full Field Digital Mammograms (FFDM) and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) scans.

The first and only FDA cleared product of its kind on the market, cmAngio detects BAC at the study and breast level, marking BAC segments on mammogram thumbnails for precise localization. It enables physicians to identify BAC using existing screening mammograms, referring patients for further evaluation without additional radiation or procedures.

The cmAngio Scorecard highlights BAC regions with contours on thumbnails, allowing quick visualization and reporting. By facilitating early detection of BAC, which might otherwise go unnoticed until serious symptoms arise, cmAngio supports improved patient care and empowers radiologists to make more informed assessments and follow-up recommendations.

Cerebriu

I first met the Cerebriu team at RSNA 2023, and if you didn’t meet them then, this should be the year you do.

Fresh off the back of closing their Series A round in September, the Copenhagen-based innovator in MRI workflow is one to watch in 2025.

Founded in 2018, their Apollo product is the first CE-marked real-time MRI triage and automated protocol optimization solution for brain MRI.

With significant recognition across EMEA and a partnership with 西门子医疗 , next year looks to be the year that Cerebriu make big strides in North America as well.

To anyone involved in the Neuro space, Cerebriu’s Apollo product is a must see at RSNA.

CARPL.ai

My third recommendation for RSNA 2024 is CARPL - Radiology AI Platform .

The past 12 months have been outstanding for the Radiology AI platform company. From a seed funding round in February, to 510(k) clearance from the FDA in May and CE Mark for Europe last month. CARPL are arriving in Chicago with some serious momentum.

Boasting 135+ applications from 60+ vendors on their platform, they’re making big waves in a competitive Radiology AI platform space.

CARPL have a packed lineup of events at RSNA this year, including AI Panel discussions, Booth Presentations and a presentation at the AI Theater on Mon 2nd Dec at 2.30pm.

Industry News

Outside of RSNA, there have of course been some other major updates in the world of Medical Imaging in November.

Metric Bio client, Butterfly Network, Inc. received the Best Medical Technology award for 2024 at the Prix Galien USA Awards. Regarded as the ‘Nobel Prize of Life Sciences’ this award for their iQ3 product is a real testament to the work and decication of Joe DeVivo and their entire global team.

Butterfly Network are exhibiting at RSNA, you can find out more about iQ3 at booth 3972 in the South Hall.

deepc also debuted their deepcOS AIR platform, with a live product launch last week.

Industry leader Dr Amine Korchi described the launch best, as having an ‘Apple-life feel’ with Deepc ‘walking the last mile of the radiology workflow…connecting AI software that analyses images directly to reporting solutions that enhance radiology report generation.

A possible game-changer? I know Dr. Franz MJ Pfister, MD, MBA and the Deepc team think so.

FDA / Market Approvals

It's been another busy month for market approvals.

Metric Bio partner Nicolab started the month with the announcement of their EU MDR and UK MDR regulatory approval.

Hyperfine | AI-Powered Portable MRI announced their European Launch, with CE Approval of their latest generation of AI-Powered Swoop System software. You can find them at booth 2802 in the South Hall at RSNA, where they will once again be offering live portable MR brain scans.

icometrix received the first FDA clearance for AI-driven MRI solutions for Alzheimer’s treatment. You can find them at booth 4903 in the AI Showcase, South Hall.

Last week TeraRecon, Inc. received 510(k) clearance for their Cardiac MR AI-based auto-contouring. They will be at booth 8134 in the North Hall.

Korean based AI imaging company VUNO Inc. received FDA clearance for their Chest X-Ray product. They can also be found at the AI Showcase in the South Hall, at booth 4952.

Funding Updates

There are increasing positive signs of continued investment in radiology across North America and Europe.

One of the bigger announcements in November was Cortechs.ai closing their oversubscribed Series C round. They can be found at booth 6551 in the North Hall at RSNA.

Ligence announced their seed round funding of €3m, to support growth of their solution in the cardiac ultrasound AI space. Their team will be at RSNA, and you can arrange to meet their Co-Founder and Chief Business Development Manager, Dovydas Matuliauskas, MD , here.

mediaire confirmed their €12m growth investment, to scale their operation in the AI imaging space.
