At the end of each year, we all create summary statements as we look back on the year. Rather than numbly create your statement based on what happened, why not radically redefine your 2022 experience and use it as a launching point into a successful 2023?
Here are three ways to redefine 2022 and get ready for 2023:
- Reinforce Success – review the past eleven months and identify your patterns of success. Celebrate what has gone well, what you’ve accomplished and who you’ve become as a result. Then decide how you will continue your success patterns. It’s too easy to look at what hasn’t gone well. Why not identify what's been successful and do more of that?
- Refresh Your Perspective – have you lost your sense of optimism and fun, or maybe you’ve run short on objectivity? How can you reset your physical, mental and emotional well-being to prepare for the coming year? Pick one action to refresh your perspective: serve others less fortunate than you are, take a real holiday break (step away from devices and all things toxic), spend time alone in nature, read or listen to something out of your comfort zone, make a list of 100 things you’re grateful for, ask “why?” or “what if?,” clean out the clutter (mentally and physically), be still.
- Reflect on Your Future – what do you envision for the coming year? Before you create resolutions, goals or plans - pause and reflect. What experience do you want to have in 2023? How do you want to feel at the end of the year? Who do you want to become? To make that true, what routines, rituals and habits do you need to radically redefine? Future plans are often focused on achievement more than fulfillment. How can you have both?
Do more of what went well, see things from a different perspective and get intentional about the experience you want from the coming year. These three actions will help you radically redefine 2022 and prepare you for a 2023 where you can be all of who you are meant to be – as a person, a leader, a change agent or whatever role you play.
