Did you know that students who are struggling want to succeed but they are stuck? A student that is struggling to earn good grades is usually in an ongoing vicious cycle of using the same bad study habits. They may have various personal situations that distract them from studying. Unfortunately, to many of teachers don't have time to teach good study habits to students. So students keep getting bad grades they feel like dropping out is their only alternative. It is true that insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different result. It is time for educators to change how we address the needs of students who want to drop out of school. School administrators, teachers and counselors must tell students dropping out of school is not an option. Each school should have a dropout prevention team. The team should look for drop out patterns of students in their school. Here are a few additional things your school administrators, counselors and teachers can do:
1. Pursue a grant that pays students for attending a certain amount of tutoring.
2. Have your student down load a time management App that reminds them to study daily.
3. Get your students to school early to get a tutor
4. If your student is studying the heart in their biology class get a model so they can practice identifying parts of the heart.
5. Use Quizlet help you to study different
6. Get involved in an after school program at the school
7. Use Youtube videos to increase the student's memory of a subject
8. Get your students to practice their presentation more than twice
9. Require students go to Kahn Academy on the internet to watch educational videos on many subjects
10. The student should read their notes more than once and create an outline of important points and terms to know.
Every student needs encouragement regardless of their age. School administrators need to always focus on school culture that encourages good study habits, volunteerism and leadership. Encourage students to pursue help right away and make tutoring a common activity for all students. Get volunteer college students involved at your school. Changing your school environment will make your students want to stay in school and pursue bigger goals.
