The Radical CPA: The Journey Continues

The Radical CPA: The Journey Continues

As far as I have come over the years with my firm, New Vision CPA Group, I keep seeing more ways for us to improve and grow. I’ve been thinking a lot about scaling lately and what that could mean and what that would look like.

And yes, sometimes it’s overwhelming.

But it’s no different than the very beginning steps of getting Radical and starting your firm’s total transformation. In one of the interviews for my new book, the managing partner of a 160-person firm said, “the position makes the person.” I so love that quote.

It means that I take a deep breath and keep moving. My decision-making muscle is already fairly strong because I make decisions all day. Moving forward and growing means there are more decisions to make and more opportunities to grow both my firm and my skill set.

And I’m sure there will be mistakes made along the way.

I think it’s important for me to share this because I recently was with a group of CPAs who want to change but were starting to get overwhelmed with all the things that had to change. It made me remember, that when I started, I didn’t see what the end looked like.

Turns out, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

My goal 11 years ago when I started all this (it’s my firm anniversary in June) was to create a firm that treated employees/women fairly and make work fun. Something that I found seriously missing in the firms I worked in before. I didn’t know what our service offerings would be, what my business model would be or who our customers would be. I think the bigger why of my firm allowed for all the right things to happen and the understanding of what mistakes I was making.

So, as I enter into this next decade of growth, I am reminded that “the position makes the person.” And I’m open to what is in store for my firm. And if you are just beginning your firm’s transformation, remember “the position makes the person” and you will never be fully prepared for the journey.

But you can totally do it.

All it takes is movement and deep breaths.

And remember, we’re here to help.

Let’s get this journey started!
