RADIATION – THE SILENT KILLER

President of the Russian Federation Putin declared yesterday 03/25/23 that he is allocating tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, as response to the Britain announcement that they will deliver ammunitions with depleted uranium with their tanks to Ukraine.

Talks about nuclear danger are really very threatening, mostly for Ukraine that already experienced nuclear explosion in the Chernobyl Nuclear power plant in1986. On this scenario NBO created their tv series, and also after that Russia created their own TV movie. The difference in the two scenarios was that the American version accented on the communist disinformation, faulty reactors and human negligence and errors, while in the Russian series appeared the theory that foreign intelligence and foreign agents are involved in the explosion.

I would not say anything about what happened, but only about what could happen, if we don’t see the reality in the eyes, how the whole nuclear conflict could threaten the whole population of the world, not only the people ?in the close perimeter of the disaster.

The work about the deactivation of the reactors in Chernobyl and the adjacent territories continued for months after the explosion under the best soviet scientists and engineers and finally managed to burry the reactor under thousands of tons of steel and concrete. Operation that cost the life of many soldiers and ordinary people.

The government is giving 36000 widows of the dead husbands benefits for the cleaning of the area, Some of these individuals received levels of radiation that killed them in one minute, like inhaled radioactive dust particles. And also 600000 to 800000 people participating in the clean up of the disaster were given special status “liquidators” with extra health care and extra benefits.

In Ukraine, death rates among these brave individuals rose from 3.5 to 17.5 deaths per 1000 people in the next 5 years. Disability among the liquidators has also soared. In 1988 68% of them were regarded healthy, while 26 years later just 5.5% were still healthy.

International Atomic Agency doesn’t think that there is direct correlation between the cancer rising levels and the clean up procedures, because there were not enough data among the cleaners and the population comparing the data in the years after the explosion. For this contributed a lot the Soviet propaganda and disinformation. But the facts are:

Some of those living closest to the power plant received internal radiation doses in their thyroid glands that were up to 37,000 times the dose of a chest x-ray. Around 200000 have been relocated from the area, and is still not very clear how much the radiation have contributed to their health issues.

The prospects of another disaster always existed and the prospect of man created disaster is much more higher than ever before with the conflict in Ukraine now.

It is known that the explosion in Chernobyl contributed a lot for the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the end of the cold war. The atomic bombs dropped by the USA on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan in 1945 also contributed to stop the World War II. Does the West envision another nuclear disaster to stop the conflict in Ukraine and what Russia is doing to anticipate and prevent it? This time the disaster could be much more severe and hard to be controlled. Chernobyl was very hard to contain from spreading on the other reactors, and of spreading the radiation around the whole European continent, because traces from the radioactive cloud were followed even to France and Britain.?Chernobyl needed the whole gigantic Soviet scientific power at the time to contain. New methods were created on the way of cleaning, and new ways of treating the radiation and containing it. Now Russia is more prepared than any western country to deal with the problem. Are we ready for this scenario, when two derailed trains with chemicals almost turned into a disastrous catastrophe.
