RACV celebrates women in tech for International Women’s Day
This year, the theme for International Women’s Day is Break The Bias. The campaign focuses on forging women’s equality in a world that is ‘diverse, equitable and inclusive’.??
While the number of women working in STEM-associated industries has risen four per cent in the last four years, RACV is committed to continue its journey into transforming the future for women in tech and to #BreakTheBias. Gender diversity across the workplace increases equality and equity, and has been connected with fostering innovation, creativity, productivity and diversity of thought.??
Daniela Anic, Digital Delivery and Operations Lead at RACV, was drawn to the vibrant world of technology, finding it to be “a vital part of all companies”. At RACV, Daniela says she's been given the opportunity to “get training in areas that support my personal growth, as well as training that complements my role”.?
Junior Web Developer Bonnie Shale also feels she has had room to grow in her field with RACV. “I am not only supported, but actively encouraged to grow my career in tech and follow my aspirations through secondments and mentorship opportunities,” she says.??
While there is still work to do nationally to achieve gender parity in the technology space, both Daniela and Bonnie believe that the industry has evolved. “It’s easier to break into tech now,” says Bonnie.
“Companies are more driven to bridge the gender gap in technology, which means there are a lot of pathways into tech that didn’t exist a few years ago.”??
Daniela agrees, saying that women’s contribution to the industry is now more widely recognised, as well as their “skills and attributes that contribute to a positive, supportive, efficient and successful workplace.”??

Bonnie and Daniela found as well as the mental stimulation and opportunities for career growth, it was an excellent industry to pursue hybrid or flexible working arrangements, as well as an opportunity for training in areas that support personal growth.??
When prompted for advice they would give to women in tech, both advised to be open to the industry and wide world of tech:??
Daniela: “Be open to accepting challenges and opportunities that present themselves to you. You will be supported not only by your manager and peers, but also by the entire department.”?
Bonnie: Don’t be intimidated. Be confident in who you are and what you can achieve, not what you don’t know.?
