Rackets, Revelations & Relationships

Do you ever find yourself taking life too seriously?

Building a coaching business while working on yourself and raising a family requires a lot, right!?

Learning. Meditation. Reflection. Deep thinking. Healing. Writing. Creating. Coaching. Being coached.

Throw into the mix being a parent and being married to a coach... I don't stand a chance.

It's ALL consuming.

Where is the space for living?

Well, my wife and I started to see that recently.

In our weekly check-in, we both agreed we aren't living into one of our family values of FUN.

And after cliff jumping was mooted, tennis lessons it was.

And wow...

The best decision and it?did more than just give our week a facelift; it revitalised our relationship, reminding us of the importance of quality time without to-do lists or expectations.

But tennis also offered valuable insights for life and business.

Our tennis instructor, who could easily pass as a Zen master, emphasized guidance over force.

You're trying to force it Joel

He shouted at me!

A lesson I have come to realize in business and life too.?

And a challenging one...?as for most of my life, I relied on power, persistence, and force—kind of like a stubborn bulldozer.?It helped me bulldoze my way to success, but pure force has its limits.

It's like fuelling a supercar with standard unleaded 95. It will move, but to reach its full potential, you need super unleaded nitric oxide and all the other fancy stuff.?

Guiding and working with life's flow takes you further, and faster, and is a whole load more fun.

It took me a lot of unlearning to embrace this way of living.

Fortunately, I had little unlearning with my tennis, so I trusted my tennis teacher. And sure enough, the less I tried, and the more I focused on relaxing, guiding the ball, and having fun, the better I played.?

Now this doesn't mean don't work hard.?

No... if you want to build a thriving coaching business, you need effort, focus, and discipline.?

But it does mean it doesn't have to be hard.?

Nuanced, I know.?

But when we relax and?work with life, rather than wrestling against it, we tap into the universe's guidance.

And that's when business gets really fun, and success becomes incredibly easy.?

Which for me,?comes down to relaxing,?awareness, curiosity, and flow.?

Stay relaxed, be aware of the synchronicities life presents, explore them with curiosity, and follow the flow.

So, if things aren't flowing for you, ask yourself:

  • Are you relaxed or forcing it?
  • Are you going too fast or too slow?
  • Is this the right time for you?
  • Where are you being shown to focus instead?

I will leave you with these inspiring quotes from two of my favourite books:

"I am so grateful that surrender had taught me to participate in life's great dance with a quiet mind and an open heart."

- The Surrender Experiment

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us."

- Man Search For Meaning

Big love,

Joel
