Racism: A Public Health Crisis
Last week, Middletown became one of the first cities in Connecticut to pass an ordinance declaring racism a public health crisis. Community Health Center, Inc. joined The Rev. Robyn Anderson, Health Equity Solutions, The Middlesex County COVID-19 People of Color Health Initiative, and others in calling for this ordinance.
This was an important step in addressing racism in our city. Recognizing and naming a problem is one of the first steps in addressing a problem. We look forward to joining with others in taking additional steps, such as analyzing policies to prevent unintentional injustices and implementing new policies and actions to change or dismantle problematic systems.
Middletown is a great city, thanks in part to organizations working together to name and address problematic systems. I look forward to our ongoing work together.
