Racing Against Time? The Urgency to Salvage the SDGs by 2030!
As I am preparing for the upcoming annual #FutureofLeadershipSalon, narrowing down our mission and intention for this day, the UN 17 Sustainability Goals of course came up. I got curious when they were actually stated.

You will not believe it. On 1 January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit — officially came into force.
That makes it 9 years in the run and 6 more years to go. Scary? Ambitious? Relaxed? How do you feel? I have to say, I am getting nervous sitting on the edge of my chair and wiggling around as my heart is racing.
It feels we didn’t go very far. And when I reflect about the challenges leaders are facing right now in business, we might even got of track. What do you think?
To get from my gut feeling to a more informed research I screen the net, asked AI and my #circleofinfluence. While these goals were established with ambitious intentions, the persistent gap between aspiration and reality demands our attention.
Here are my 5cents why we find ourselves distant from the targets and discuss the imperative actions needed to overcome challenges and realize the SDGs by 2030. Of course, I would love to hear also what you think – on our next call, in the comments or at the Future of Leadership Salon

Complex Interconnectedness:

Lack of Global Coordination:
The absence of a unified, global approach hampers progress. Disparities in commitment, resources, and policy implementation hinder the collective momentum needed to address issues such as poverty, inequality, and climate change.

Collaborative Partnerships:
Silos must be shattered in favor of robust partnerships. Governments, businesses, NGOs, and individuals need to collaborate seamlessly, leveraging collective strengths to address the multifaceted challenges posed by the SDGs.
Innovative Solutions:
The landscape of problem-solving must evolve. Embracing innovation, technology, and sustainable practices can catalyze transformative change. Whether it's clean energy, education, or healthcare, innovative solutions are key.

Policy Reforms and Accountability:
Effective policies are the backbone of progress. Governments worldwide need to enact and enforce policies that align with the SDGs. Simultaneously, establishing mechanisms for accountability ensures that promises turn into actions.
This is a Call to Action for all leaders!
?? 3. 6 years left to shaping a Sustainable Future
Empowering Local Communities:
Change often begins at the grassroots level. Empowering local communities to actively participate in sustainable practices, education, and economic initiatives can create a ripple effect that contributes to achieving broader goals.
Educating and Raising Awareness:
A critical factor in success is awareness. Educating communities, businesses, and governments about the significance of the SDGs fosters a shared responsibility, inspiring collective action on a global scale.

The 2030 deadline for the SDGs is not a distant future; it's the horizon of our collective responsibility. By acknowledging the challenges, embracing innovative solutions, and fostering global collaboration, we can navigate a path toward a sustainable and equitable world.
