If you think this does not belong on LinkedIn, you are wrong. The fabric of diversity is the underpinning of success in modern society; inequities of oppression, social injustice, and prejudices towards people of color are serious threats to our business community and global economy, to innovation and excellence everywhere.
The LinkedIn business community – as diverse as any on the planet -- must take a stand. As Archbishop Desmond Tutu has said: ”If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have taken the side of the oppressor”
This is not about politics or the election, this is about the basic values of our society and global community. The responsibility for vigilance against this threat rests as much with the business community as it does with elected officials and voters.
Vibrant democracies will always, and should always, have extant, deep and passionate conflicts, differences of opinions, of values, of philosophy. However, the values of separatism, racism and domination must be rejected. Those who continue to hold these beliefs are not welcomed to act on them or attempt to impose them as policy or embed them in our social compact or on our communities or our children.
As a business community, we can take a brave stand and make a powerful statement: Animosity based on race, ethnicity, religion or other category of the human condition will not be tolerated by representatives of government, public or private organizations or corporations.
The fabric of our society may be made up of many threads, but it is the weft of universal values of humanity that holds us together and gives us strength.
