The Race to the Finish
tl;dr: It’s God versus Man inside of each of us.
The message on my Carl Jung Daily Wisdom app this morning read as dollows:
“The unconscious wants to flow into consciousness in order to reach the light, but at the same time it continually thwarts itself because it would rather remain unconscious. That is to say, god wants to become man, but not quite.”
Carl Jung
I read this as my “thought-starter” going into my morning meditation.
One of the benefits, I believe, of meditation is:
“If you wish to improve yourself, try silence or some other cleaning discipline that will gradually show you your true selfless self.”
Tao of Leadership
So, I put these two together and came up with this.
Our lives, our efforts to get to our ‘true selfless self’ is about reaching the divine portion of our beings, the eternal part that transcends time and space. The journey that each of us takes is a trip back towards the original self, but to learn it through the trials and tribulations that each of us faces.
We want to reach our own “God state.”
Meanwhile, we are in a race against time because we are mortal, or at least our bodies are, and because, unlike in most sports, we have no idea how much time is left on the clock.
So, it stands to reason that the real “race against the clock” is our own willingness to recognize the preciousness and sanctity of each moment as it occurs.
I am not enlightened by any stretch, I suspect that ability to live fully in the present at each moment is part of the state of enlightenment.
Perhaps that is why enlightenment descends upon people on their death beds, as they are acutely aware of how little time is left, so the present becomes priceless.

3 年I like your point on how, the less time you have, the more the perception of value is. It's rare for folks to think about death - and that the time we have is a scarce and finite resource. I find peace in thinking about death - because it gives value and importance to each day I have today. Thanks for the thoughts Jeremy
