RACE Dashboard Challenge #2
The second monthly challenge in the context of the RACE initiative was launched today. Here we are looking for innovative ideas to address societal problems with EO and interdisciplinary data and approaches. The latest challenge looks for ideas to develop an integrated socio-economic indicator to monitor the impact of the COVID pandemic across Europe.
To do this, we are suggesting to develop (1) simple EO based proxies for different socio-economic activities (e.g. SAR backscatter time series over parking lots), (2) calculate them over a representative sets of AOIs (can be systematically developed using the OSM overpass API or in a simplified way using CLC) and then (3) to combine the the proxies into an integrate metric. But this is just an example scenario - we are open to innovative ideas that take a different approach!
Each monthly challenge starts with a prototyping stage, after which selected ideas can be upscaled to the EU continental level. See the RACE challenges announcement for more info.
Hosted Juypter notebooks in EuroDataCube are provided as the development environment. There are plenty of tutorial notebooks explaining different ways of accessing and investigating the different datasets.
Are you ready to take up the challenge?
