Race for Catherine

A heartfelt thank you to all the Buffs who supported this year’s Race for Catherine! Every dollar raised will go directly to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, founded in 2013 in memory of Catherine Violet Hubbard, a six-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook tragedy and a passionate animal lover. The sanctuary’s mission — to enrich the lives of all beings by promoting compassion and acceptance. By honoring the bond between animals, humans and the environment, we’re creating a kinder and gentler world for all — has blossomed into a meaningful movement fostering empathy and kindness.

This year, 535 participants from across the country came together, logging over 1,500 miles to support the sanctuary’s vital programs. We eagerly await updates from participating rescues on how many animals have found their forever homes, as well as the final fundraising total.

BLUE showed up in full force! BLUE Vet Sales proudly sponsored the event and provided 1-year of free pet food to a local Newtown resident. Volunteers Susie Gonegonto and Jennifer LaVelle staffed our booth, offering Blue Nudges (courtesy of Emily Z. from Marketing) and Blue Mini Biscuits (packed by Debbie Johnson prior to race day) to both the four-legged participants and their humans. Catherine’s BLUE Crew team featured Angela Gajda, Susie Gonegonto, Ben Kimmel, Gina Long and Aimee Williams.

Catherine’s mother, Jenny, shared a moving message: “This weekend, you sent a message to the world that goodness prevails, smiles flourish, and kindness truly exists. On behalf of the entire sanctuary and all the creatures we cherish, thank you for making the 4th annual Race for Catherine a success.”
