Rabbi Eliezer Waldman Z"L

I had the opportunity to speak and spend some time one on on with Rabbi Eliezer Waldman in 1989. I was living in Jerusalem and the Rav was a member of Knesset with Techiya. He was extremely generous and giving of his time. I have shared the story often in the last 30 plus years. It was shocking to me how accessible an Israeli elected official made himself to a teenager like I was at the time compared to how hard it was to gain the attention of an American congressman.

I had first encountered Rabbi Waldman when the Rav joined a large group of American students studying in Israel at a protest. We were demonstrating against the unfair conditions that Jonathan Pollard and his then wife Anne Henderson Pollard were being held under. Rav Waldman was the only Knesset member who stood with us that cold night opposite the then American Consulate in Jerusalem and he passionately addressed the crowd.
