RAAM and teaming: going beyond the limits
There are two things I really enjoy: pushing my limits and teaming with others to do the same.
I’m in the thick of training for the Race Across America (RAAM). It’s the toughest cycling race in the world, but it’s a journey I can’t wait to take with the EY Legacy Builders team.
I’ve always set challenging goals for myself. I push myself in my career at Ernst & Young LLP, helping global companies get the most out of information technology. I push myself physically with long-distance bike rides and rock climbing. I hope that what I do inspires others.
But this time, I’m drawing a lot of inspiration from working with my colleagues as we gear up for this 3,000-mile trek. The riders are not the only ones on this adventure. Thanks to our support crew and dozens of volunteers managing the logistics, we’re not doing this alone. If you ever wanted to see an example of a high-performing team, this is it!
The reason for our ride encourages me even more. As I’ve told you, we’re doing this for College MAP (Mentoring for Access and Persistence). We want to raise $2 million to help underserved students apply to and succeed in higher education. You can help us in that mission by making a donation at www.ey.com/RaceforCollegeMAP.
Biking across America will push my limits like never before. But for many, getting a college degree is even harder. When I was young, my family didn’t have much, and I was the first to receive a college degree. I really hope that by teaming for this fundraiser, we’ll help others achieve the same success.
We still have a few months to prepare for the race that starts on June 18th. But everyone’s willingness to pull together keeps me going. And so do the students. I firmly believe that when we commit to something bigger than ourselves and focus on being successful, we can achieve some amazing things.
