(R) Evolution 2020 – Free Your Database (FreeDa)

We at BOI are continuously seeking to improve the use of reference data in your business applications. In 2019, we had numerous discussions with IT-decision makers from banks, insurances, hospitals, and industry. As we have seen, there is one crucial challenge for reference data management: knowledge about reference data is with the operating departments, so employees working in the operating departments should be data owners and thus carry out any data changes. Unfortunately, these people often lack the necessary IT skills to securely maintain reference data in relational data bases, the most common way to store and use reference data.

In order to allow data owners in operating departments to carry out data maintenance safely, we have started to develop FreeDa. FreeDa will be an intuitive and straight forward solution for audit-proof maintenance of reference data by non-IT experts.

Based on BOI’s 40 years of expertise in that field, FreeDa will provide one single, process-oriented web frontend for easy data maintenance. Furthermore, FreeDa will allow administrators of the central IT-department to define individual data change processes, user authorizations and roles, data plausibility checks, and many more, in order to establish effective and efficient workflows for data changes for your whole organization.
