Quo Vadis Europe?

Last week there was an attempt to cancel #NatCon Conference, organised by National Conservatism in #Brussels, which shows the high ideological polarisation in Europe. This prevents dialogue and civic —and civil— discussion, which prevents Europeans from reaching important agreements on the type of Europe that we want. The dictatorship of political correctness is a clear example of how the dominant discourse tries to silence dissenting voices.

This polarisation will also be laid out in the coming elections to the European Parliament (June 6-9), where at least two opposing views will be facing each other: those that seek to continue the current course —defenders of a great European integration which (intentionally or not) will bring about the dissolution of EU member states into some sort of United States of Europe— and those that present the alternative view of the Europe of Nations, whose standard-bearers are the ECR Party (ECR Group in the European Parliament) and Identity and Democracy Party. These two blocs represent not only differing positions on national sovereignty but also present very different anthropological views.

There is much at play and that is the reason why political parties and civil society organisations are in a boiling state. Seminars, workshops, conferences of many ideological flavours are taking place across Europe, right before the EU elections that may very well be a tipping point for the #EuropeanUnion.

This time of the year there are many international gatherings across Europe and this year is no different. As a result, last week #Fortius team went to #Brussels at #NatConBrussels2 organised by National Conservatism and this week we are in #Hungary to attend #CPACHungary, organised by American Conservative Union and the Center for Fundamental Rights. Right after that, we will be going to #Romania, where we will participate at the #MEGA Conference, hosted by the Institutul de Studii Politice Conservatoare Mihai Eminescu.
