Sometimes You Must Quit to Win.

Winners quit all the time.

They examine their results. If the results are low or not the best, they quit doing it.

They also don't continue "doing the same thing and expecting different results.”

Winners know that persisting without different results will lead to burnout and mediocrity.

Conscious Quitting is recognizing the habits that aren't working for you, getting you the results you want, and changing them.

I hear it most often used in Sales circles.

Successful, professional sales people are notorious for quitting all the time.

They are coachable and their coach or manager will work with them to continuously improve themselves so their results improve. It's not the job they're quitting, it's the behavior that is holding them back that they're quitting. And, of course, it begins with Mindset, then Habits, then Behavior.

What it can look like:

The only structure a sales person would allow in his day was client appointments on his calendar. Otherwise, he felt his creativity was stifled.

The result? He couldn't account for 25+ hours of the week. He was constantly interrupted and distracted by co-workers. His sales were stagnant. He was miserable.

It was time to quit the old and replace with something new.

  • A new belief:?scheduling allows more creativity
  • A new habit:?scheduling every sales-producing activity – along with appointments every hour – with an alarm going off to move to the next activity
  • Put into action they produced?a new behavior: feeling accomplished, satisfaction, positive talk, and more certainty.

After a couple of months being consistent with his new belief, new habit, and new behavior, his sales began to give him the results he wanted. This gave him the confidence that the changes had worked.

Have you quit something recently?

A habit that was holding you back?

Are you ready to quit something but are uncertain what to replace it with?

Now is as good a time as any to Consciously Quit what isn't giving you the results you want.

Copy Tip

The most common question I get from a new copywriter is:

What Books Should I Study?

This is by no means a definitive list of books on copywriting, persuasion, and selling.

If you can find a book on consumer behavior - the psychology of why people buy - get it.

If you could get only one book, spend the money to get Breakthrough Advertising. And study it.

Whichever book you begin with ... study it. Apply it as fast as possible.

The more you write the better your writing will be.

Health Supplements Regulated Differently Than Drugs

“…FDA regulates both finished dietary supplement products and dietary ingredients. FDA regulates dietary supplements under a different set of regulations than those covering "conventional" foods and drug products…resulting in dietary supplements being regulated as ‘special foods’…” from FDA website.

In short, the manufacturer can’t list an ingredient that isn’t used in the product, nor can they market the product to do something it isn’t designed to do.

General Tips for Buying Health Supplements

  1. Supplements made from whole foods and natural sources are better than the synthetic ones. They are more bioactive, can be absorbed readily, and are less likely to be contaminated by chemicals such as coal tars used in chemical synthesis.
  2. Protein-bonded vitamins and minerals (vitamins and minerals in organic form, binding to amino acids) are more bioactive than the inorganic forms.
  3. Herbal concentrates and extracts are usually more effective than raw herbs.
  4. Don’t consume more than the recommended dose.
  5. Be careful when consuming certain herbal supplements, such as Ma Huang/ephedra, Kava Kava, comfrey, etc. Some studies have shown that these herbs may cause severe side effects in some people. Stop use if unusual signs appear after consumption.
  6. Some health food supplements may interact with drugs, either by decreasing or increasing their effects. Consult your doctor if you are currently taking medications or are taking supplements and being prescribed a medication.

Pun of the Day

I once heard a joke about amnesia, but I forgot how it goes.
