Quit fast, often, and without guilt...

Quit fast, often, and without guilt...

“Winners quit fast, quit often, and quit without guilt.” - Seth Godin

Like many people, I struggle with ‘quitting’. It’s like we’ve all been conditioned that ‘giving up’ is a bad thing, without exception. But what if that thing isn’t the right thing? Or not right at the moment? Or just plain dangerous?!

This week, I had to make a hard business decision due to some personal stuff. I decided to postpone my event, Fit To Lead LIVE, which I’ve been so excited about for the past couple of months.

I am gutted. But I’m disciplining my disappointment (as Jim Rohn would say). I’m reminding myself of all the reasons why this is the right choice. And I am focusing my energy on the things I have in front of me: my family and friends, my own health, the gigs I have booked for Q1, and a few other irons I have in the fire...

Trust me when I say that FTL LIVE Will definitely still be happening… it will just be a bit further down the road!

Remember this: quitting is not a failure. It is a decision you can make at any time, and it can often be the right thing to do.

Is there something hanging around which you need to quit?

Something which isn't working for you any more?

It could be a habit, a relationship, a business endeavour... anything really. Reflect on your current circumstance and take a look at what needs to go.

Why wait for new year?!

In the news this week...

Rest is not always about physical downtime. You might be feeling exhausted in other ways: emotional, social, sensory… Check out this article by Emma Beddington about different forms of rest, and maybe try incorporating them into your daily/weekly routine.

Shout outs...

Big shout out this week to Darryl Edwards, Vicki Ostrowski, Nick Elston and Claire Russell for their understanding when it came to my decision to postpone my live event. These folks were my speaker line-up, but not only that, they are also my friends and mentors.

I highly recommend going and checking them all out, they are doing incredible work in the fields of mental health, fitness, mindset and much more!

Recent work/testimonials...

Here's a recent bit of feedback from Justice Onwuka at Christian Aid:

“Jay was not only impactful, knowledgeable and strategic in his approach, but he is also authentic, thought-provoking and a catalyst for change. Jay lead a virtual wellbeing talk on burnout to a global organisation such as Christian Aid, he was able to present his case to a diverse audience, and feedback on Jay's performance has been positive. We look forward to working with Jay again one day, and the buzz from his talk is still implanted in all of our minds. Jay cares, and it is evident in the positive impact he has made in my organisation.”

It was an absolute pleasure to speak to their large workforce across the globe, all about burnout and how to avoid the slippery slope.

Last week’s podcast...

In case you missed it, my conversation last week was with Sarah Farmer. We chatted about the trap of physical appearance, warped world-views, and a ton of personal revelations... Honestly, we talk about some really heavy stuff on this one, like genocide-level heavy, but there are lighter moments as well, so don't panic!

What's coming up?

In exactly one month's time, it'll be the first day of 2022.

Throughout December, I will be announcing some super exciting stuff which I have planned to help you get your daily habits and routines in order, take back some control of your mental and physical fitness, and support the people you lead to do the same.

Keep your eyes peeled, as there will be more news coming in the next few days...

In case you were wondering... (an insight into my week)

  1. This week I have been rediscovering the fine work of Deftones, by starting right back at their 1995 debut album 'Adrenaline'. If you're tempted by some great hard rock/alt metal, go have a listen.
  2. With a confirmed case of Covid-19 in my youngest daughter, I've remembered how intense having a child at home ALL THE TIME can be ?? Although she has been instrumental in helping declutter her bedroom from all the toys and games she's outgrown.
  3. We're currently having building work done at the house, or maybe it's technically demolition? Most of the job is taking down a horrible, damp conservatory... so I guess there's more deconstruction going on than construction, for now. Either way, I love watching the view from my office change through the day!

And finally...

A huge thank you to you for reading, please subscribe if you haven't already!

I'll be publishing this newsletter weekly, and it will be full of useful stuff to help leaders like you stay fit and well, and to help you support your team to do the same.

Drop me a comment below ???? to let me know your thoughts on anything I've shared in this week's edition, and let's start a conversation!

I look forward to chatting ??

Big love,
