Quiet Quitting Isn't Helpful
Over the past few weeks I started seeing this term #quietquitting in my various feeds and was curious about it. At first I thought it was about a new way staff were choosing to leave their jobs as an extension of the #GreatResignation . But in reality, it is mostly about setting boundaries and managing work and life in a healthier way.
The term gets your attention and is easy to market but it doesn't help those seeking balance because instead of honoring their search for a lifestyle and approach to productivity, it puts that search in a negative light . . . aligning it with the concept of quitting.
Quitting says to me that someone is giving up or letting go of something. But quiet quitting is really about reframing work and thinking about it in new ways. It should be life giving, not a loss to be mourned.
What would you suggest as a better term for quiet quitting? What might honor people's search for an integrated and healthy life of faith, family, friends, work and interests? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
