Get Quiet
Today's devotional is from Your Life Matters: Daily Reflections from the Psalms
"He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth'" - Psalm 46:10.
There's a lot of noise all around you every day of every year. When there isn't noise, you may create it by putting on some music, turning on the television, or going to a mall. Yet to hear the voice of the Lord or just to get in touch with your own thoughts and feelings, you must create some quiet space where you can open yourself to the path of your inner being.
That can be scary, for what if the Lord speaks to you? What if you have to confront your own guilt, fear, or insecurity? What if He gives you an assignment for which you feel you are ill-prepared? The psalmist directed readers to be still so they could get a better perspective of who God is in all His glory and power. When you do that, your current situation, which may be a challenge for you, will fade into the awareness of God's awesome power that will ultimately be expressed in the Second Coming of Jesus.
Take some time today and every day this week just to compose yourself, pen and journal close by, quieting your heart and mind to listen to God, thus sharpening your focus on His majesty, greatness, and purpose for you and for all His creation.
