Quick Zip: Schedule refresh time during focused work blocks

If you have important focused work that needs your attention, you may likely use an approach that involves focused work blocks of uninterrupted time where you turn everything off, set a timer and dive deep into your work. It’s an awesome concept I adopted a few years back that’s been great help for me.
I’ve recently discovered adding scheduled Refresh time inside that block at the end. If I’m going to dedicate 1hour towards a project, I may work for 48 minutes and use the last 12 minutes to refresh.
Refresh time is not for any kind of work at all. I’ll do something I enjoy. Something relaxing like a brief walk or glancing at sports scores or messing with a little mindless game or a puzzle. This refresh time allows the brain a chance to reset so it can return get back on track to the next priority… refreshed and ready! Give it a try.

My team knows before the shift I have quite a bit of prep work to get taken care of and if they have questions or concerns that are not necessarily time sensitive for me to bring them to my attention shortly after we get started. I have just been direct and honest with them that for me to stay focused I need that time in the morning. Also towards the end of the shift when we are finalizing our data it's the same story. Everyone has tasks to take care of when those are complete and I have things wrapped up, those are the appropriate times to once again ask questions and review our progress for the day.
