Happy New Year! Although for some it looks a lot like last year. For some worse. That’s time for you. It keeps marching on.
2020 ended sadly for many. For country music fans, it was the loss of Charley Pride due to complications from the virus. A generous man, his family asked people donate to their preferred food bank or charity rather than send flowers.
Something that stands out for me about Charley Pride, was his courage. He was acknowledged as the first African American country singer who eventually became a country superstar and legend.
I recall watching a documentary which explained how audiences expected to see a white man step on stage. They had heard Charley sing on the radio but had not seen him. How must that have felt for Charley knowing he was going into areas which were already segregated and here he was singing ‘their’ music? That takes courage and a lot of desire.
Maybe 2021 is a chance for us to take a leaf out of the book of someone like Charley Pride. We need courage at many times in our lives and it is super important right now. We also need desire to attain what we want in life, what we want to achieve in every area of our lives and, importantly, how we want to live our lives.
May this year provide to you all that you are willing and courageous enough to strive for.
