Recruitment is vital to advancing your mission. It's essential to attract candidates from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they align with your culture and business goals. Consider these key steps:

1. Plan & Strategize:

  • Define Hiring Goals: Clearly outline what you aim to achieve with your new hire. This includes understanding the role, required skills, and how the new employee will contribute to your mission.
  • Communicate Your Mission and Work Environment: Make sure potential candidates understand your company’s mission, vision, and culture. Highlight your commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
  • Advertising Platforms: Decide where to post your job ads. Options include online recruitment sites like Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and niche sites relevant to your industry.
  • Create Job Descriptions: Write clear and honest job descriptions that reflect the role and your company culture. Include key responsibilities, required skills, and your company’s mission, vision, and values.

2. Market & Source:

  • Crafting Job Ads: Create job ads that reflect your company’s culture and values. Highlight what makes your company unique and why candidates should want to join your team.
  • Job Posting Sites: Post your ads on appropriate platforms. For general roles, sites like Indeed, LinkedIn, and Glassdoor are effective. For specific roles, consider niche sites like Dice for IT positions or AngelList for startups.

3. Screen & Interview:

  • Initial Screening: Focus on cultural fit and basic qualifications during the initial screening. Avoid making snap judgments based on resumes alone.
  • Interview Process: Use structured interviews with a focus on cultural fit (80%) and job qualifications (20%). Ask questions that help assess how well candidates align with your company values and culture.

4. Review Top Candidates:

  • Team Evaluation: Review candidates as a team, focusing on cultural alignment and potential. Consider using assessments or paid projects to evaluate finalists.
  • Cultural Fit: Ensure candidates align with your company’s pace, style, and values. Look for soft skills like communication, teamwork, and flexibility.

5. Select Your Person:

  • Final Decision: Ensure all decision-makers agree on the hire. Keep a close #2 candidate engaged until your first choice formally accepts.
  • Employment Application: Have candidates complete an employment application to gather basic information and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

6. Make the Offer:

  • Verbal Offer: Call the candidate to offer the position verbally. Follow up with a formal written offer letter outlining the terms and conditions.

7. Schedule Orientation and First-Day Planning:
