Quick tips for *some* Adobe applications
In some of the Adobe applications you can change values by using the following techniques, give them a try!
- Click on the value to make it active. Then use the Up and Down arrow keys on your keyboard to adjust the value. This will change the value by one increment per click.
- You can keep the Up or Down key held down to change the value continuously.
- Hold down the Shift key when you click on the arrow keys to multiply the result by 10.
- Hold down the Command key (or Alt key in Photoshop) to go up or down by fractions of increments (i.e. .1 of an increment)
- In some Adobe applications you can also change values by "scrubbing" their values. To do this, hover over a value till you see a hand with arrows, click and drag left or right to change the values.
- This is a great method for choosing fonts too! Select your text and then select the Font Family field in the character panel. Use the up and down arrow keys to move through the fonts, watching your artwork update as you go.
- After Effects also allows you to perform mathematical calculations inside the value box. So, for example, if a layer is Rotated to 145.3786 degrees and you want it rotated twice as much, just type *2 after the value to multiply it by two.
I would love some consistency within applications and across applications. For example, in Photoshop these modifiers work on some value boxes, but not all. In After Effects these work pretty much across the board. Adobe, please can we have these shortcuts work everywhere?
