A Quick Refresher on Why This Newsletter Exists

The basic idea of this newsletter is that it is a one-minute read that reminds you how to advance your career by helping other people.

In past issues, I've profiled topics including serve, don't sell; when you create a goal, shape it in terms of helping others; and move towards the light and bring others with you.

My philosophy is that there are two ways to get ahead, either by being evil or by doing good. Most of us are not nearly Machiavellian enough to succeed by being evil, so we have no choice but to do good. (Plus, it's a much nicer way to live.)

I also believe that you are either part of the solution or part of the problem, so it's not acceptable to say, "That's just the way business works" in justifying selfish, anti-social behavior.

In the year ahead, I'm going to dive even deeper into specific ways to grow your career by doing good. This includes ways to:

  • strengthen your relationships
  • gain far greater clarity around who and what matters most to you
  • ask better questions
  • add more value
  • find a greater sense of purpose

If this sounds good, I hope you will share this issue with friends and colleagues who might enjoy coming along for the ride. As always, I promise to cherish your time and never waste it.
