1. NEW LABOUR GOVERNMENT - EMPLOYMENT CHANGES

The new Labour government is expected to introduce laws significantly changing employee rights, including removing the 2-year qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims. This means all employees would have full employment rights from day one. We recommend a health-check of employment contracts, policies, etc. to ensure readiness for these changes. 2.GET READY FOR INVESTMENT/ EXIT DUE DILIGENCE

If you’re planning an investment round/ exit, you need to be due diligence ready. Because, at the very least, it will help the deal move quickly, which can be key if your cash runway is short. Legal due diligence is part of this and will include a review of corporate governance, ownership and exploitation of assets, intellectual property and data, your contracts with customers, suppliers, partners, how you deal with your staff, regulatory filings and compliance, etc. See our blog on how we can help you get legal DD ready here.?

NEW TRAINING UPDATE: EMPLOYMENT ISSUES 101 WORKSHOP

This introductory module gives an overview of the basics of employment law, with a focus on the practical and day-to-day management of some typical people issues. The session aims to help equip your team to spot problems, respond appropriately and know when to seek specialist help.

A typical 1.5 hr session will aim to cover:

  • Basic legal protections for employees & workers and how it’s different for freelancers/ contractors
  • The employment contract and why it matters
  • Dealing with absent employees
  • Dealing with underperformance/ conduct issues
  • Responding effectively to complaints/grievances
  • Avoiding unfair dismissal (inc. constructive dismissal)
  • Avoiding discrimination and harassment
  • Flexible working (inc. remote and international working)
  • Parental rights in and out of the workplace (inc. flexible working requests)
