Quick notes from Made Cascade's Seattle Climate Meetup - July 19, 2023

Climate tech is way more than software & IT.

Often times you have to build something.

That's what Seattle's Made Cascade, LLC is for.

A personal crew that will jump in to design, prototype, or even manufacture your new physical product in Ballard.

Takeaways from the event

The format: open space with tables to walk up to and discuss key topics:

  1. Carbon Dioxide Removal
  2. Carbon Accounting/Management
  3. Electrification/Renewables
  4. Built Environment
  5. Food/Agriculture/Land Management
  6. Emissions Reductions

  • Demand Response - keeps coming up. Learn it and you will have job opportunities. For example, companies like Voltus .
  • CLEAResult - provides utility consulting services for Demand Response and are hiring
  • InDERmediate Podcast - James Gordey from Bayou Energy started it because he found that learning clean energy gets really hard really quick. It's for people who don't like drowning in 1,000 page PDFs.
  • Microalgae - Bao Nguyen Quoc is developing a carbon sequestration solution using microalgae. He is a postdoctoral entrepreneur at the University of Washington's CoMotion program, which provides support for early-stage startups.
  • Don't stress over a job description that requires years of experience that you don't have. Two people I talked to got offers regardless. The key is building an internal champion that understands the hiring team and what they truly need. Job descriptions are deliberately vague so they can pass HR requirements.
  • Intersectionality - climate weaves into everything else. For example, affordable housing. I met an affordable housing advocate who wants to change our zoning code and ensure multi-family housing units are using the most climate friendly technologies possible.
  • Not everyone is a job seeker - if you're happy with your current job, these action steps can help you transform your company into a climate leader
