Welcome Welcome to this month's addition of "A Quick News Flash of the World Today!!" I seriously hope you have done, learned, or tried something new, and I hope you learn or try something new from this month's article!! I will start with entertaining, fun, and even cute stories, and then go to more serious - not bad - just think-about stories!!

We will start with a funny story about a lawyer!! You have probably seen this trending video either from it being sent to you, which happened to me, or you found it somewhere on some media platform!! The video I am talking about is of a lawyer who accidently had a cat filter on while in a court hearing!! To set the scene, courts went online during the pandemic and the zoom call had the other lawyer and the judge!! I think my empathy\laugh moment was, through the cat filter you can see the panic on his face as he tried to figure out what's happening, and more importantly how to stop it!! Happily, both the judge and the other lawyer were quite respectful and tried to help out, which was polite and really nice!! So that is a fun article to begin with, and for the next story it addresses another fun event!!

Accept it happens every year - Valentines Day!! Fun Fact: One of my favorite other names\nicknames for Valentine's day is Galentines Day, which is Gal and Valentine's Day put together!! This day is about love and showing it, but it's usually only seen about love between humans. So I thought, why not bring in the animals!?! I decided I would talk about penguins because on one news channel or another, I saw a penguin pick up a rose, walk over to his mate, and give the rose to his "Valentine!!" Then I searched up other things about penguins and it was cute, and wanted to share!!
One that I found was super cute and heart-string-pulley was they adopt orphans. Because parents will go hunting and will sometimes be killed from one thing or another, so the outcome is there are orphans. So I think it is amazing that the other adults in the group will adopt them!! Some of my other favorite things that penguins do are cuddle, kiss, hug, they share parental responsibilities, propose with smooth stones, and sing to each other with unique songs!! Some of these things are even in human relationships, shows we aren't that different from animals. Heck, we are animals!!

Our last fun and entertaining story is about something good that has happened during the pandemic. Which is terrorism in Pakistan has gone down!! Terrorist attacks on home soil have gone down by 86% since 2013, and between 2019 and 2020 alone there was a 45% fall!! In fact, terror incidents in Pakistan’s biggest city of Karachi [ which includes targeted killings and kidnappings ] has reduced by more than 98%. This has led to a staggering improvement of the city’s ranking on the World Crime Index: from sixth highest back in 2014, to now being 108th, which is just next to Spokane, Washington. This is great news because now Pakistan is a much safer place than it used to be, which is most likely a relief for its citizens and families!!

That is the end of the fun and entertaining stories. Now time for the serious and 'think-about' topics!! Starting with:
How Prince Philip was taken to the hospital Feb 16th for feeling unwell. Because I don't like too much drama I will tell you right off it isn't COVID; don't worry he and the Queen have been vaccinated. The mostly likely reason is because Philip is 99 years old, and that is old old!! “The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell,” a palace spokesperson told UK media. He has also had other health issues in the past, for instance in 2011, he was rushed to a hospital by helicopter after suffering chest pains and treated for a blocked coronary artery. In 2017, he spent two nights in the King Edward VII hospital. Lastly he was hospitalized for 10 days in 2018 for a hip replacement. So hopefully he will be able to get over this "unwell" feeling, and more importantly avoid COVID. Because it for sure would not be good news.

Now about parent's income and how a new study [ from the London School of Economics and Political Science] says it impacts children, especially now during the pandemic. Ms. Cooper explains "Our conclusions are clear: there is a strong causal effect. Money makes a difference to children's outcomes." Kerris Cooper and Kitty Stewart of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Exclusion (CASE) and the Department of Social Policy at LSE found strong evidence of the causal effect between household income and children's outcomes after reviewing 61 studies from OECD countries, including the US, UK, Australia, and Germany. Income matters because 1) it impacts parents' ability to invest in goods and services that further child development, and 2) low income causes parents stress and anxiety. There is particularly strong evidence that increasing income is likely to reduce maternal depression, which is known to be important for children's outcomes. This is especially important now because so many jobs have been lost. On that happy note, let's carry on with this subject and talk more about jobs [ for Canada!! ]

Canada lost nearly two million jobs in April as non-essential services and businesses were closed to contain the spread of COVID-19, according to Statistics Canada’s April labour force survey. The unemployment rate happily went down to 10.9% in August 2020 and 8.6% in December. However, the latest data from Statistics Canada showed that 213,000 people lost jobs in January 2021, resulting in the unemployment rate jumping up to 9.4%. Luckily it didn't go to 14.7% like in April 2020, but it did jump and that's a lot of people in uncertain situations. Sadly at least 15,000 of those people have kids, so definitely a struggle.

For the last story, we're doing funny, because that was A LOT!! Let's talk about an ENORMOUS teddy bear made of roses, because it looks soft and cuddly in photos!! This bear was a decoration at a wedding vow renewal ceremony for 108 couples in China, and it broke a Guinness World Record for the world's largest rose bear. The bear is made of 48,000 real roses attached to a metal wire frame, and measures 15 feet and 10 inches long, 12 feet and 10 inches wide, and 20 feet and 2 inches tall. So basically you can chalk it up to: It's a big bear!!

Now with that I hope you all learned something new and try to break rhythm and patterns in your life!! Because it keeps things interesting and I think it is super cool to learn, even if it's reading "The Beaverton" or finding out cats can smile [ not the traditional way though...…] Thank you and Goodnight!!
P.s There is a good quote that I wanted to share: "Water doesn't break things down and change things by power, but by persistence." However if you add power to persistence then that's a powerful mix!!
