Quick maths - the world of work

The world of work, especially being accountable for others, is not simple. As a ready reckoner, like learning times-tables, here's a guide, wrapped up in some simple mathematics.

2+2 = 4 The importance of results. Delivering to expectations like this basic of all sums is one to learn early and stick to.

2+2=5 Unless, you're building teams. The beauty of a great teams is that '2+2' can equal 5. If you get the right 2, put them together with another 'right 2' you are adding more value than the individual components, guaranteed.

2 to the power of 10 Unless, you work out how to lead people effectively. If you can do that, you can be a multiplier and then who knows the size of the result. Multipliers make everyone better as a result of them being around (see Liz Wiseman's fantastic book of the same name)

2-2=0 Unless, you have energy suckers in your team. If you do, they take you (all) to zero. Identify them, help them.

2/0=0 Division reduces things. Division is a race to zero. Don't permit, tolerate or create division.

2B Think strategically...what do you want your business, team, self to be? Set these hypotheses and try and beat the odds to achieve the results (go back to 1)
