Hiring new staff is a time-consuming, costly task, but one that, if done right, can make a real difference between business failure and success.?
A bold claim, maybe. But it’s not unfounded. And the crux of the matter is this: as a busy hiring manager, you simply don’t have time to give the actual hiring process the dedication it deserves, in fact needs, to be done at its best.?
So, how can we make the most of the limited time we have to work with? How can we give the hiring process the attention and care necessary to be successful in it?
Here are our quick hiring tips for busy hiring managers:
Set out a hiring schedule ahead of time
A great way to be efficient with your time spent hiring is to create deadlines to meet. Give yourself plenty buffers and put aside time spent in the case something were to take longer than anticipated — and most importantly, stick to it without fail.?
That may mean booking days out of your calendar to purely focus on interviewing. It could mean setting out an entire hour with your notifications muted to review profiles and resumes. What it largely means is, setting more than just a “hire by/start by date”. Give yourself bite-sized milestones along the way (1st interviews completion date, processing second stage applications done by XYZ date, etc) and make the huge goal of a successful hire more digestible and achievable.?
Delegate and share the load
Finding the right cultural fit is as important as anything. The more people your new starter meets during the process, the more likelihood you get this bit right.?

Save yourself time by having other team members meet your candidate. Perhaps they welcome them in and spend five minutes chatting about their journey over; maybe you have someone jump in to ask a few final questions and draw things to an end. The time you’ll save combined with another trusted opinion from a top performer on your existing team is a win-win situation for all involved.?
That’s not to say your own portion of the interview should be rushed or suffer due to the sharing — but you can spend your time wisely and make the interview itself far more efficient.?
Make it a priority
Ultimately, giving the recruitment process your full attention and focus from the off will result in a much more swift, timely hire made.?
By making this one task your priority, you can expedite the process exponentially. A fast hiring process is one which keeps the talent engaged, excited, and in the loop. Speedy decision making throughout means you’re in your best mind to answer the important questions; with meetings with candidates fresh in your mind, you’ll be closer to making the right choice each time. And, ultimately, saying no to a couple of other tasks or projects which may come your way just for now will pay dividends in time — namely when thatnew hire you made is on board and adding value.?
And tip number four? Outsource to a recruitment partner like NLG.
