A 'quick' cuppa!
Things designing for CREATE Business Hub has taught me about using my time wisely.

A 'quick' cuppa!

As I sit here in the creative and unique, fully serviced office space that I have designed, pondering over all the great facilities that CREATE Business Hub has to offer the 'modern worker', I start to reflect on all the previous offices that I have worked in over my career of 30+ years and a few things that were normal then, now stand out to me.

I started to wonder how I got any work completed, and how I was productive when I didn't have all the gadgets that surround me today. Take for example the simple task of making myself a cup of coffee.

This would generally mark the start of my working day. On route to making my drink many other staff members would say something along the lines of 'make me one while you're there' until it became an expectation and my morning ‘quick cuppa’ would turn into a 15-minute tea lady job!, this I smirk to myself, is something I no longer have to do...

Now, I still make coffee, but the super machine installed in my fully serviced office kitchen grinds the beans, offers strength options and all at the press of a button!

This then takes me to the end of the day... everyone has had a drink (or many) throughout the day, and some people have managed to take their mugs to the kitchen, whereupon they have dumped them in or near the sink. Now although this isn’t my job to clean up after people, I am one of those people who feels like I can’t leave a mess… and as I will invariably want my morning cuppa the next day, it will mean that I will end up washing them all up to make the obligatory beverages! So that’s another 20 or 30 minutes wasted.

Fast forward to the fresh coffee that I have here as I write this and I’m thinking how great it is that we have multiple dishwashers in this building!

Sounds petty right? Well maybe, but just making one or two rounds of coffee and washing up has probably taken an hour out of my working day, back then I’d feel like I needed to work late, unpaid, to make up for this, now I don’t even think about it, as drinks and cleaning up only take 5 mins throughout the whole day with todays technology.

This then leads me to think… How many people may want to escape the office for those 15-minute breaks with the excuse of making tea for everyone? What do they do now?

Well, please accept my sincere apologies if I’ve created more working time in your day and taken away this excuse to escape… Maybe you could spend those 15mins in a pod I’ve installed… I’m sure you’ve booked a Zoom call, right?
